Learn About Wills and Bequests

What are the benefits of making a bequest?

  1. You leave a lasting legacy that will help Schreiner students fulfill their goals.
  2. You might lessen the burden of taxes on your family.
  3. You may receive estate tax savings and in some cases income tax savings. (See gifts of retirement assets.)

What are my options?

With so many changes in the tax laws, many friends appreciate the opportunity to review their old plans or create new ones with their attorneys. If a person's will is recent, he/she may prefer to add a codicil instead. A codicil is like a "P.S." adding another heir or other instruction.

You can make a gift that is
  1. A specific dollar amount or asset
  2. A percentage of your estate
  3. The balance or residue of your estate
  4. A beneficiary designation of certain assets
